Responding to Community needs – Etu Pasifika’s Covid Hub
As the Omicron outbreak rapidly spreads across the country, Etu Pasifika, the largest Pacific health provider in Christchurch, has responded by transitioning their vaccination centre to become a Covid Hub for the Pacific community.

This means that Etu Pasifika’s vaccination centre at 173 Montreal Street will become a location focused on supporting Pacific families and individuals affected by the Omicron outbreak not just clinically but also offering wider services including mental health support.

General Manager for Etu Pasifika, Mr Amanaki Misa, acknowledges the success of the vaccination centre and also its responsive nature to the community’s needs.

“The eligible Pacific population to be vaccinated is 12,000 and we’ve administered over 17,000 doses of the vaccine to both Pacific and non-Pacific. With cases constantly rising, we see the need to transition to a Covid Hub.

We’ve had to activate the hub quite quickly due to the outbreak. The Covid Hub will have swabbing stations, nurses and doctors on the ground, as well as welfare and mental health support available.”

Mr Misa reassures the Pacific community in Canterbury that the services are available to anyone who is Pacific regardless of their enrolment status with the clinic.

“With the current environment, we want to be helpful and serve the community as best we can. We are open and accommodating to our people; the hub is open to any Pacific person or family that wants to come in for support.”

Clinical Director for Etu Pasifika, Dr Monica Nua-George, further reiterates the services available at the Covid Hub.

“It is a hub set up to support Pacific families in Canterbury during Covid – we are testing for Covid and supplying RATS, we are providing medical checks, managing positive cases, providing welfare and mental wellbeing support.

We encourage families to call our hub for information and support for Covid. Our team will assess your need and allocate it to our team members to support with that need.”

The Etu Pasifika Covid Hub will be operating at 173 Montreal Street. The hub will officially open on Monday 7 March, 2022 and will operate from 9:00am - 4:30pm.

For anyone needing support, please call 0800 388 434. You do not need to be enrolled at Etu Pasifika to access support.
