This week is Men’s Health Week – why do you think it’s important to talk about men’s health?
I believe it’s not being spoken of regularly. I don’t know if this is still around but there is a stigma for Pasifika men that going to the Doctors makes them look weak or they may be embarrassed to get a regular health check. It's great this week raises the awareness and that we should be normalising men’s health.
Why is health and well-being important to you?
Live longer, live happier! I guess it creates a good foundation for yourself, especially if you are a father. Understanding health and wellbeing allows me to pass that knowledge onto the next generation. Plus, if I stay healthy until I’m older than I am able to run around with my kids when they grow up.
What do you do to keep yourself healthy?
I try my best to go to the gym frequently. I enjoy playing golf and going for walks.
What’s your go-to meal?
Hot chicken and Salad with bread rolls – yum!
Your favourite proverb/mantra/quote/song that keeps you feeling positive?
Tongan one my Nena (RIL) always said to us – “Ai e kataki ke lahi, teke toki ikuna hono lelei” “Be patient in times of struggle and challenge as the outcome will be fruitful”.
What’s your favourite physical wellness activity?
Doing laps at the pool or chasing my kids around the house.
What’s one wellness tip or piece of advice you can share to encourage others this week?
Starting is always the most difficult part. Once you get a rhythm and consistency you will never look back. Don’t make excuses!
