Men's Health Week 2023: Phillip Vaifale
Phillip Vaifale, a Health Coach at Etu Pasifika Canterbury, has been a dedicated sportsman for many years of his life. For Men's Health Week 2023, Vaifale weighs in on the importance of mental health and how it affects our overall well-being, aligning well with Etu Pasifika's integrated model of care.

This week is Men’s Health Week – why do you think it’s important to talk about men’s health?

It's important because often men neglect their health. They put the needs of their families and loved ones before their own. Also, men are often expected to be the rock for their families.

Why is health and well-being important to you?

Health and well-being is important for me because in order for me to be an effective help or support for others, my health and well-being have to be in a good place.

What do you do to keep yourself healthy?

Currently I've been aiming to go for daily runs. I also attend Brazilian Jiu jitsu every morning before work. I also like to play any kind of sport that is available to me. Sports has been a big part of my life since my school days.

What’s your go-to meal?

Corn beef with mixed vegetables and rice

Your favourite proverb/mantra/quote/song that keeps you feeling positive?

DO YOUR BEST AND LET GOD DO THE REST

What’s your favourite physical wellness activity?

My favourite physical activity to keep my wellness in check is going for a hike to a nice view followed by a wholesome meal.

What’s one wellness tip or piece of advice you can share to encourage others this week?

For your physical activity “find something you enjoy doing that’ll fill your cup” - for example, when I play golf, I choose to walk the eighteen holes instead of hiring a cart.
