Etu Pasifika Canterbury welcomes Cook Islands nurse Richard George
Etu Pasifika Canterbury is excited to welcome Richard (Richy) George, a Cook Islands nurse, to the team.

George’s ancestral roots trace back to Aitutaki (Amuri), Pukapuka (Wale), and Palmerston (Pamati). Originally from South Auckland, he relocated to Christchurch with his family five years ago. Now, he is eager to contribute to the health and well-being of Pacific communities through his role at EPC.

Richard expresses his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a nurse.

“I am truly grateful to be a nurse and am deeply committed to making a meaningful impact within our communities. My passion lies in providing culturally respectful care, supporting health education, and addressing the unique health needs of Pacific people.”

His passion extends to health promotion and disease prevention, areas he believes are crucial in supporting long-term well-being.

“I’m passionate about health promotion and disease prevention because it allows me to help people stay healthy before they get sick. I look forward to working on programs that educate patients and communities about healthy habits, nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being, which can have a lasting positive impact on their overall health.”

When asked how he maintains a healthy lifestyle in his personal life, Richard shared his approach.

“I like to focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle by eating a balanced diet, staying active, and getting enough sleep. I stay proactive with regular health check-ups and prioritise my mental health by staying connected with family and seeking support when needed. I also believe that nurturing strong relationships and practicing self-care are essential for my overall well-being.”

He also encourages others to take small but meaningful steps toward better health.

“Making small, consistent steps towards a healthy lifestyle can make a big difference over time. Whether it’s eating more vegetables, walking for 10 minutes, drinking extra water, or checking in with your mental health, every positive action matters.

"I think it is important that health isn’t just about preventing illness, it’s about nurturing your overall well-being.”

Nurse Lead Liliola Toma is excited to have Richard join the team.

“Richard brings a lot of value to our team. It’s great for us to have another male nurse on board too. This is going to help us with outreach for our current patients that we serve. We look forward to working alongside Richard and supporting him through his own growth and role.”

Next time you visit the clinic, be sure to say Kia Orana to Nurse George! The EPC team is excited to have him on board and looks forward to the positive impact he will bring.
