Etu Pasifika Canterbury hosts successful community vaccination drive as winter approaches
Last weekend, Etu Pasifika Canterbury (EPC) hosted a community vaccination drive at Riccarton High School, as we approach the winter season. The event saw an impressive turnout with 327 vaccinations administered, with the flu shot being the most in demand.

Nurse Lead for EPC, Liliola Toma, says the team were pleased to put on another successful vaccination drive.

“We were ready for the high turnout and were able to offer more than just the standard vaccines. This time, we also administered HPV vaccines and a few doses of the newly funded Bexsero, which protects infants against Meningococcal disease.”

Dr. Leone Vadei was the lead general practitioner overseeing the day’s activities and enjoyed connecting with the community.

“Connecting with our community in such a meaningful way is at the heart of what we do at Etu Pasifika. Events like this are important for building trust and ensuring our Pasifika community feels valued and cared for.

“There was a wonderful sense of teamwork and open communication. The day had a truly positive vibe."

Whānau Ora Lead for EPC, Edna Soli, says it was great to host the vaccination event on the west side of town, having previously held similar events on the east side at Te Aratai College.

“It was a beautiful day, and being in a different location allowed families from Rolleston, West Melton, Rakaia, and other surrounding areas to join us. The change in venue helped us reach more people across the region.

“It was also fantastic to have other community providers there, raising awareness about the services they offer to our community.”
