The nationwide campaign is aimed at encouraging families to receive their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine; vaccinations for Covid-19 will also be available.
Fale Pasifika O Aoraki will also be present at the vaccination event to help further encourage the community and Pacific families to come along. Operations Manager for Fale Pasifika, Terisa Tagicakibau, says it is important for Pacific providers in the region to work together to serve Pacific communities.
“Collaborative work is the best for the outcomes we want to achieve. It’s important to be visible as it’s already difficult for Pacific peoples to access Pasifika focused services, so our goal is to be accessible and usable.
With our residing numbers increasing rapidly, we need to have a presence at initiatives such as these vaccination drives so the local community knows we’re here.”
The MMR vaccination has been the key focus for the vaccination events, especially with the increase of travel.
“We have seen an increase in travel by Pacific families, so a vaccine drive like this is important because protecting yourself from diseases such as measles ultimately protects our families back in the islands.
We can holiday peacefully knowing we have done all we can to prevent any outbreaks and keep those we love safe.”
