Men's Health Week 2023: Joey Misileki
Joey Misileki is a Whānau Ora Navigator at the Etu Pasifika Auckland clinic. With a focus on Men's Health Week, Joey encourages men to embrace their emotions and express themselves freely. Upon reflection, he highlights the importance of self-care and seeking support when needed.

This week is Men’s Health Week – why do you think it’s important to talk about men’s health?

To show men of all ages that it is ok to be emotional and express how you feel.

Why is health and well-being important to you?

In order for me to perform or function at my best, I need to ensure that my health and well-being are in check. This includes activities such as discussing my anxiety with my partner or addressing any stress I may have experienced during the day. It can also involve simple things like going out to eat and play with my family, or taking some 'me time' at the gym. If I fail to keep myself emotionally balanced, I tend to lose focus easily and become prone to anger. Therefore, maintaining a balance in my physical, social, mental, and spiritual aspects of health and well-being is crucial for my everyday living.

What do you do to keep yourself healthy?

I stay active 3 to 4 times a week, engaging in activities such as walking, going to the gym, or playing with my daughter at the park.

What’s your go-to meal?

If I have money then it’s usually sushi, otherwise in general I am a home-made burger person.
