A Pathway to Paramedicine Rooted in Family and Culture
Meet Myles Prouting! Myles is on his way to becoming a paramedic and currently serves as a health care assistant at the clinic. Influenced by his family's strong legacy of service, he has been inspired to pursue a career in health and education

In celebration of Niue Language Week, we’re showcasing Myles’ journey and the motivation behind his career choice.

His mother, Falena, serves as a Nursing Director for Etu Pasifika and his father, Garth, is a paramedic.

Falena’s journey has been a powerful influence. After raising her children, she returned to study and advance her nursing career, while Garth balanced working alongside Myles with completing his paramedic training. Together, they’ve shown him that education is an ongoing process, regardless of life’s stage.

Myles’ Niuean heritage plays a key role in how he connects with others, especially Pasifika families. His cultural values help him offer care that goes beyond physical treatment, creating meaningful relationships based on empathy and trust. This connection allows him to better understand the needs of his community, fostering deeper engagement and support.

At Etu Pasifika South Clinic, Myles has gained valuable experience from the nursing team, learning how to provide care with compassion and communicate effectively. These skills have reinforced the importance of meeting patients where they are, ensuring that every interaction feels respectful and supportive.

For those considering a career in healthcare, Myles believes staying connected to purpose is essential. The challenges of the profession can be demanding, but holding on to the reason behind the work provides the motivation to persevere.

With his parents as role models and his cultural roots as a guide, Myles Prouting is not only building a career in paramedicine but also cultivating a practice grounded in empathy, connection, and community care.
